Almost 99% of railways in USA are privately owned by freight rail companies, big and small. Among the biggest ones are 4 - 2 on the eastern side of the country (CSX Transportation & Norfolk Southern Railroad - NS RR) and 2 on the western side of the country (Union Pacific Railroad - UP RR & Burlington Northern and Santa Fe - BNSF).
Seen here is a BNSF Intermodal Train (double stack trains without railroader wagons are called Intermodal Trains) with export containers arriving at Winslow, Arizona.
