With this, the Kanpur Metro has made its way to the Kanpur Central station through underground tunnels, starting from the ramp area near Brijendra Swaroop Park, after Motijheel. The 'Vidyarthi' TBM machine was launched from the launching shaft at Kanpur Central in December 2023. Upon reaching the retrieval shaft at Nayaganj, it was greeted with applause by everyone involved in the project. During its journey, the 'Vidyarthi' TBM machine installed a total of 838 rings and constructed approximately 1250 meters of tunnel before reaching the retrieval shaft. The tunnel construction work on this 4.24 km long Kanpur Central-Transport Nagar underground section is being carried out by the 'Azad' and 'Vidyarthi' TBM machines. After the completion of tunnel construction from Kanpur Central to Nayaganj, the next phase will involve constructing the tunnel from the indigenous cotton mill, Shyam Palace cinema to Kanpur Central. UPMRC Managing Director Sushil Kumar said that the 'Vidyarthi' TBM machine has successfully completed the construction of the tunnel on the 'down line' from Kanpur Central to Nayaganj. With the help of this state-of-the-art TBM machine, they have been able to construct underground tunnels while passing through the busiest areas of the city.
