The Indian government is likely to abandon plans to construct three new dedicated freight corridors (DFCs) – East Coast, East-West, and North-South – due to low capacity utilization of the existing ones and issues with their network planning. Instead, the focus will shift to building commodity-specific rail networks for specific goods...

like energy, minerals, and cement, as well as for port connectivity and high-traffic density. This change in strategy comes after the recent commissioning of the East and West freight corridors, which have struggled to attract enough customers, resulting in low capacity utilization. The decision was announced by the Finance Minister in the interim budget and aligns with the PM Gati Shakti initiative, aiming to improve multi-modal connectivity and boost GDP growth while reducing logistic costs. While the three proposed DFCs would have totaled 4,315 kilometers in length, the commodity-specific corridors are considered more practical due to their existing customer base and the challenges faced by the existing DFCs.

Indian government, three new dedicated freight corridors (DFCs) – East Coast, East-West, aur North-South – banana plan ko drop karne wala hai, because existing DFCs ka capacity utilization kam hai aur network planning mein problems hain. Instead, focus commodity-specific rail networks pe hoga, jaise energy, minerals, aur cement ke...

liye, aur port connectivity aur high-traffic density ke liye bhi. Yeh strategy change East aur West freight corridors ke commission hone ke baad aya hai, jinka capacity utilization kam hai because customers nahi mile. Finance Minister ne interim budget mein yeh decision announce kiya, yeh PM Gati Shakti initiative se align hota hai, jiska aim hai multi-modal connectivity improve karna, aur GDP growth badhana aur logistic costs kam karna. Three proposed DFCs 4,315 kilometers long hote, commodity-specific corridors practical hain because unke liye customers already hai aur existing DFCs ko problems aa rahi hai.

Yes on WDFC the last phase work is still pending click here click here but the EDFC is fully completed.
The problem might be lesser demand from customers on the route, selection of route and many factors. Instead a coal or any mineral dedicated corridor can work better in SECR SER ECoR where coal production is more click here

EDFC orignal plan on which it was sanctioned was till Kolkata. While the work was in progress it got shelved and it was short terminated. On papers the EDFC is completed but not in reality in which it was envisioned

In this case WDFC fared better because they are progressing till destination JNPT. Port connectivity is important for both the DFCs as it ensures goods reach the port without any disruption enroute.

These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
