Railway Board has authorized Zonal Railways to decide on earmarking the defence quota based on utilization. In case berth or seat reserved for defense personnel is not booked for journey, all these seats should be informed and surrendered before 24 hours of scheduled departure of train. All the unreserved berths under this quota will then be allowed to be used by civilians. Railways also reserve four seats in every coach for ex-army men.
