Why is it often reported that maximum/operating speed shall increase after electrification ? again and again is beyond any logic. Reporters of Railway news are often not equipped with basic knowledge of Rlys. Common people start having unnecessary hopes about Rly electrification after reading it.
Maximum speed achieved by a train on Indian track is on the electrified section and the train was hauled by a diesel loco and not electric loco!
Speed of train is dependent on the condition of track and not the loco for trains of Indian Railways....

At the most electric loco can save a couple of minutes between 2 stoppages due to slightly faster acceleration and that too if its power rating is higher than diesel loco. For WAM4 (4000hp) and WDP4 (4000hp), the timings will be almost same.
For High speed trains say above 200 kmph, the electric traction becomes a necessity. For Indian tracks (110-160kmph) Diesel locos are good enough as far as speed is concerned.
