WDP-4D's...
more... are 4500 HP (Horse Power) Dual Cab Passenger Class Locomotives which is a modified version of the previous version WDP-4B Single Cab EMD's . Dual Cabs help the Loco Pilots to view better and operate the loco in both directions with ease unlike the inconvenience faced while operating the Single Cab Loco in Long Hood Forward ( Cab facing backward).Due to the lack of turn tables in Indian Railways Loco Pilots had no choice but to operate Single Cab EMD's in Long Hood Forward which was a challenging task.
.
Diesel Locomotive Works - Indian Railways manufactured their First WDP-4D EMD Loco as early as in 2010 how ever the Loco was being tested and mass production began only in 2012. Ever since then Single Cab Passenger Class EMD's have been discontinued from being manufactured. WDP-4D's are the latest passenger Class Locomotives in Indian Railways and more Locomotives are being manufactured as per demand.
.
Allotment of Dual Cab EMD's to Bangalore's Krishnarajapuram Diesel Shed took a long time due to the terrain being rough with huge gradients and sharp curves which were proving vulnerable due to the Locomotives overall length was one of the prime reasons behind holding back from getting a certificate of Operation from the Railway Board officials to operate the 4D's.
.
Finally on 26th June ' 2015 the first Dual Cab EMD of KJM DLS went live with Bangalore City - Arsikere Passenger Service post all clearances.
