Fast growing city of Nashik is not connected to Rly network, hence Nashikites use Nashik road RS. It would be in the fitness of things if a survey is carried out from Nashik Road-Nashik- Malegaon-Dhule-Mhow-IND, with holistic view of giving the best connectivity to Nashikites (especially to Mumbai). Mumbai-IND distance via this route shall be shorter than the one via Manmad being taken up, then only we can expect a substantial part of the existing huge road traffic from Mumbai to Nashik to switch over to Railways.
It would be even better if the Maharashtra end of the project starts from a convenient location in Mumbai and take a route something like via Bhivandi-Nashik-Malegaon-Dhule-Mhow-IND. The treacherous, timing and saturated Kasara-Igatpuri section

shall be avoided and the distance (Mumbai-IND) shall shrink further and journey times can be much lesser. Even suburban trains much to the relief of Mumbaikars, can be operated if double line is constructed in about 30-40 kms at Mumbai end. Distance from Mumbai to Nashik city may come down by 20-30 kms from 190kms to 160/170 kms by resorting to elevated tracks/ tunnels wherever required.
Project from IND end may be started as soon as clearances are over and funds allotted and Maharashtra end may be taken up as soon as the survey is over and the best route finalized within a year or so.

It is not suitable because manmad is junction which connects pune and aurangabad but nashik is not junction.

In my first option, Nashik road or a station prior to it (i.e. towards Mumbai) shall become a new junction depending upon the results of survey.
In second option the rail line will be a new spur from mumbai area (existing spurs from Mumbai are ones going towards Nashik,Pune, Surat, Ratnagiri) with very short Mumbai-Indore distance. It will open alternative route(s) from Mumbai to Delhi, Central & North India. Other advantages are in addition to reduction in distance is increase in running/avg speed, drastic reduction in journey time, possibility of new suburban corridor for Mumbai along the line. There are some Material Modifications possible to the project which have potential to make a change in the travel patterns from Mumbai.
